Herbal therapy refers to the use of plants, plant extracts and food for medicinal purposes.
“A herb is the friend of a physicians and the praise of cooks”
– Charlemagne
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we do not draw any distinction between medicine and food, they are one and the same and both equally important to exceptional health. Herbalism is the study of edible plants and extracts that support the body in its healing process. Herbal therapy is a gentle approach to medicine, instead of forcing the body to do what we want, we encourage the body to heal dysfunction and provide the right tools for it to function optimally. When we take this gentle approach, side effects are rare or very minimal.
Is Herbal Therapy Safe?
Yes, when seeing a trained practitioner you can be confident that your treatment is safe. Herbalists are also trained in western pharmacology and any potential interactions between herbs and any prescription medication you may already be taking.
How long does it take to see results?
Each patient responds differently but generally a patient will notice improvements within ten days of starting a new herbal therapy. When combined with Acupuncture as part of your treatment plan, patients can feel more immediate results.
Are herbs covered under insurance?
No, unfortunately herbs are not covered by insurance companies. The cost of herbs/supplements is in addition to your acupuncture treatment. The acupuncture treatment itself is covered by most insurance companies, during your treatment a practitioner may make herbal recommendations for you and will advise you on where you can purchase quality herbs at the most economical price.
At The Healing Hive we aim to cultivate a deep respect for herbs and their many wonderful uses. Please speak to a licensed practitioner before starting any herbal regime, they are in fact, the original form of medicine and we must treat them that way.
“To recognize what plants do, deepens our appreciation for their presence in our lives, individually and collectively.”

CONSULTATIONS
Consults can be used to determine what modalities might suit your health care needs best. This option is best suited to patients who are interested in herbal and diet therapy treatment alone without the use of acupuncture.
